The Things Kids Say

Sophie looks into my eyes and down to my mouth and says, "When I was a baby, did you chew me with your teeth?" I replied, "No! Of course not. Mommy has never been mean to you or hurt you on purpose." Sophie then asks, "Well how did I get in your tummy?!"

I explained that she was made from the eggs that were always in my tummy and that she has eggs in her tummy that might grow into a baby someday when she is grown up.  She looked happy and relieved to learn that I didn't swallow her!  Somehow from there we started to talk about God and she asked, "Is God a boy or girl?" and "Does God fly?"

Also last night, Savanna was giving us a glimpse of what might be ahead of us in those upcoming tween years and she was curled up in a ball on the couch (wearing a green t-shirt, not feeling very happy) and Sophie points, "Look, it's a green rock! HA! HA!"

This past week, Savanna also was full of hilarious moments. She was deeply upset that Noodles stopped carrying braised beef (which Savanna loved on top of buttered noodles). When we ordered braised beef they gave us steak on the buttered noodles. Savanna tried it and and said that it wasn't what she ordered. She walked up to the counter with her bowl in her hands and explained that her order was not right and they replied that they stopped carrying braised beef.  She walked back to our table and welled up with tears of anger and sadness.  When she got home, she wrote the following letter.
